The King and Her

Hi-o, this is Brady with my web logging debut. I don't normally take none to this "social networking" side of computers, but I made a deal with Bridget. For every movie review she posts on the blog, I'll post one too. Since she did the nerd-classic Serenity (conclusion to the TV show Firefly), I get to address a chick flick. Woo!

In 1840s southern Asia, Europe is sweeping across the land. India and Burma are colonized by the British, Cambodia and Vietnam by the French. Siam is surrounded by fallen neighbors, and the king means to endure into the new era. "As England goes, so goes the world", so he hires a British tutor for his eldest son. When she turns out to be so wise, headstrong, and immovable in the truth as to confront him -- even the King! -- he hires her to teach all 68 of his children. As cultural differences, stubborn personalities, world politics, and domestic military threats try to turn them against each other, they can only fall in love.

Anna and the King tells much the same story as The King and I, but with a Hollywood budget and an eye to the harsh realities of the era where Disney cuteness used to be. Half in English and half in subtitles, the story strikes vibrant, beautiful, harsh and sweet all in their turn. It's a great movie, three of four stars. See it if you haven't.

I'm a leaf on the wind.......

Hi everyone,
Not much is going on with Brady or I right now we're still just slaving away at work. I'm so excited to see you all when we come down. I hope everyone is doing well. We miss you a ton. I watched a movie with Brady called Serenity. It's about this girl they rescue named River Tam who was the Alliance's most promising student. She was a psychic that accidentally stole the alliance's most guarded secret so the Alliance spent the rest of the show trying to kill her so that she couldn't betray their secret. This movie was pretty sweet. It had some amazing special effects and the plot was fun to follow.

Well as some of my family and friends know I got a job at the Sprint store up here. I'm still trying to get used to the job and am anxiously waiting to be able to come down and see you all the weekend of the 18-20th. Until then we're just hanging in there and trying to at least keep up with our jobs if not enjoy them. Love you all tons.
